Traditions in Christian Wedding

 Christian weddings are basically very different from Hindu weddings. It is a very short and simple type of wedding but of course in a very different and elegant way. So today we are going to see some rituals followed beautifully in Christian weddings. Basically they follow very simple as well as enjoyable rituals in which they show their love to each other and their loyalty for religion.   • Pre - Wedding rituals:-

Pre - wedding includes various small and amazing rituals for the bride and groom to make it most memorable and unforgettable.

  • Engagement :-

Engagement ceremony includes a small announcement by the parents of the bride and groom in the church. The Date and marriage of the bride and groom is announced in front of some guests. A small party is also held with taste of some delicate decoration and lunch/dinner for the engagement celebration

  • Bridal Shower:-

Bridal Shower is the Christian ritual that is celebrated after the declaration or announcement of a wedding.   • The Roce Ceremony:-

The Roce Ceremony is celebrated for the bride only in which all the ladies including family and friends of the bride apply a paste of turmeric on her face and body. It is actually similar to Indian rituals and it is celebrated generally in Indian Christian weddings. On the Northern side they put coconut paste instead of turmeric on the face and body of the bride.



  • Wedding Rituals:-

Wedding is the main ritual of Christian in which officially, mentally, physically, socially, legally the bride and groom becomes life partners forever. Weddings are held in churches in which the Father does some small rituals from the bible in front of Jesus.


  • Bridal Entrance:-

            The wedding starts with the bridal entrance. In this, the bride enters in wedding dress in the church with her parents.

  • Exchange of Vows :-

Exchange of vows plays an important role in the Christian wedding. It is mandatory for the bride and groom exchanging their promises and vows in front of all the guests and each other. In this they announce their promises to live together till the last breath of life.


  • The “I Do” :-

The Father asks “Do you *groom * take *bride*, to be your lawfully wedded wife, to share your life openly, standing with her in sickness and in health, in joy and in sorrow, in hardship and in ease, to cherish and love forever more?”

He replies by saying “I do”.

The same question is asked to the bride, to which she replies saying “I do”.

The priest then pronounces them husband and wife and they share a kiss.

  • Bouquet toss:-

Bouquet Toss is done after following  all the wedding rituals. In this bride throws a bouquet in the back side and  it is believed that the one who catch that bouquet will be next to marry.

*Post Wedding Rituals:-

Reception :-

After the wedding, a reception is held at a venue. The bride and groom perform their ‘first dance’ as husband and wife. They then cut a wedding cake. Toasts are raised and dinner follows. It is an occasion of fun, dancing and celebrating.

  • The Garter Toss :-

This takes place during the reception. The groom removes the bride’s garter from her leg with his hands or with his teeth while the wedding crowd watches. Just like the bouquet toss of the bride, the groom tosses the garter at all eligible bachelors at the wedding.
